~ St. Catharines' Wartime Neighbourhoods

Vale/Grass & Shakespeare/Longfellow

The homes built in “Victoria Park” were the first mass building project in the history of St. Catharines.   133 Homes were build to house men and women who had come to St. Catharines to work in the munitions and armament industry.  By October 1941, almost all the homes had tenants.

We believe that this neighbourhood was known as the “Rose Gardens” sub-division, 41 homes were built and completed in early spring 1942.
